Here is one. My commentary is done as I walk through the game, with no clue about what will actually happen next. My commentary is largely drawn from the unpublished pending product: "Bruce Wilcox's Go Dojo: Sector Fights", as well as occasionally the published installment "Contact Fights". While I use the results described in those products, I am not spending the time here to justify or explain the rules or conclusions involved. Also, since commentary and explanation could go on and on, I try not to. That means I tend to avoid adding in variations showning followups in great detail. Instead I just verbally name the move and the result of playing it. Enjoy!] ; W[dd] WL[2696.26] CR[dd] ; LB[pp:X][pq:Y] B[nq] BL[2645.147] CR[nq] C[Typical play would be at X or Y. These are standard patterns for coordinating with Black's both of Black's handicap stones. Black as played claims a preference for the bottom side. This move is ok -- IF -- Black has a plan for how to use his prior move to attack White when White enters the corner. Otherwise this is merely an inconsistent strategy move which does not coordinate with the upper right handicap.] ; W[pp] WL[2670.991] CR[pp] LB[qp:X][pq:Y] C[White need not rush to play in this area, but it is White's choice. White should expect to be squeezed from the other side. So the question is where to best play this move and what White's plan is for when it happens. But I doubt White has a plan. White needs a plan. Unfortunately I don't see a good plan from this move. So I think it is premature.] ; B[qn] BL[2611.637] CR[qn] C[Fine. A squeeze is expected here.] ; W[np] WL[2659.948] CR[np] LB[oo:B] C[ok, though since White might like to attack either stones, White's better bet is probably to play B. Black will invade at 3-3 and White just takes sente being outside the sector line. There is nothing exciting around here that White can attack strongly or use to create territory frameworks yet.] ; B[mp] BL[2579.116] CR[mp] C[Std contact outside response.] ; W[no] WL[2655.932] CR[no] C[Std contact response] ; B[oq] BL[2563.209] CR[oq] C[Std contact continuation on the vital shape point.] ; W[po] WL[2623.133] CR[po] LB[qk:X] C[White is now finding it awkward in the area. White does not have the corner as a base and White has just built a wall in gote. Black's lower group is stable enough. All Black has to do is extend up toward X and White's stones are doing nothing.] ; B[mo] BL[2495.118] CR[mo] TR[qn] C[BAD. White is contact super-stable, so filling in a White liberty is inefficient. Black should be defending his triangle stone.] ; W[nm] WL[2588.475] CR[nm] LB[qk:X] C[Concept of moving out is good, but better to first squeeze Black at X. Otherwise White is still not doing anything with all these stones. Black cannot successfully enclose White in one move, so White has time to squeeze.] ; B[jq] BL[2369.728] CR[jq] C[NO. This Black group is in no danger. It can slide, extend, run. Black must defend the other side. Then his stones are safe and working with his upper corner. ] ; W[qf] WL[2533.772] CR[qf] LB[qj:X][oj:Y] C[Could be. White is offering Black a chance to manage his lower stone, though I can't see a great place to do that, so maybe this is a fine move. A squeeze play at X is another choice. If Black reacts, White has a good fight and can extend up here during it. If Black doesn't (which is his better strategy), then a White play at Y swallows Black into oblivion but seems too small scale.] ; B[nc] BL[2262.647] CR[nc] C[ok.] ; W[pj] WL[2519.893] CR[pj] LB[rj:X] C[Right concept. Question is should this be high or low. A Black slide to X could make this move end up with very little. So I say it should be low.] ; B[qj] BL[2246.964] CR[qj] LB[qk:X][qi:Y] TR[qf] C[Attach is another good choice. White won't like either choice of response X or Y. If White Y, Black plays X and his group is already in good straits. If White plays X, Black plays Y and White needs to defend again but White's triangle stone is getting attacked.] ; W[qk] WL[2496.31] CR[qk] TR[qn] C[Generally one should attack wholesale, not piecemeal. White will get Black's triangle stone, but the capture will be inefficient and the damage on the outside will be significant. The other way was better.] ; B[qi] BL[2155.32] CR[qi] C[yes.] ; W[pi] WL[2461.195] CR[pi] C[Bad. White builds a wall facing the center but Black has easy access to the center so the wall will be useless. In exchange White is making it easy for Black to live.] ; B[qh] BL[2117.157] CR[qh] LB[rk:X] C[ok, but I'd rather be rushing to X first so I could insure I would get linked up.] ; W[ph] WL[2432.444] CR[ph] LB[pk:X] TR[qf] C[But since White is building this useless wall, Black has no problems. As White I'd want to play X, taking my immediate profit, and assume I could manage to fight with triangle successfully somehow.] ; B[rk] BL[2111.147] CR[rk] C[yes] ; W[ql] WL[2396.743] CR[ql] C[White's position is useless.] ; B[rl] BL[2105.26] CR[rl] C[yes] ; LB[qg:X] W[ro] WL[2392.302] CR[ro] C[White is attacking the wrong end. White's wall is pretty but not that useful into the center and Black sente just keeps on racking up points.] ; B[og] BL[1953.649] CR[og] TR[pe] C[Black chooses to fight. As long as Black does not die on the right, is this ok? Not really. It will be great if Black can capture White's triangle group. But unless Black has read out that he can, all it really means is Black has a floating center group and White FINALLY gets a use for that big thick stable group that was wasted before - White can attack Black with it.] ; W[rh] WL[2196.367] CR[rh] C[yes.] ; B[rj] BL[1937.34] CR[rj] C[ugly but there is no choice] ; W[qm] WL[2150.643] CR[qm] C[White has time for this as White would win a race to capture (if White is reading this out). What is the result before this move? White got about 46 points of solid territory and has claims on a bottom right corner of 12 more and an upper left corner of 9 more. Black has 26 points of territory and a moyo on the bottom worth about 8 points. Black is already losing. White has thickness facing the center but so does Black. Black has thickness facing the side, which can be used. Black has a group on the bottom that is stable, but maybe could be attacked some day. Without sente, this would be a disaster for Black since White could just waste Black's upper wall. But with sente and spent here, Black has a moyo whose net value is about 13 points. This means Black has scored 47 territory-equivalent points, White has scored 55+ territory points, and White has sente. Black is losing. He screwed up the fight. Living would have been enough and counterattacking White totally unnecessary. ] ; W[hc] WL[1920.566] CR[hc] LB[df:X] C[White is winning so there is actually no need to invade. This is a mistake. But it's a losing concept to fight in Black's area of strength when you are already winning. Why not play Z, let Black have the upper side, and take sente again. That would be a winning strategy. Black is given about 40 points for his upper moyo, 7 for the lower moyo, and 21 points of territory on the lower side. Total about 68. White would have almost 10 for his upper left position (which was previously credited with 9) and his previous earnings, so White is still holding 55+ points. Have to count the score first. White 46 territory + claims of 12. Black some 50 territory + useful side influence on the bottom. Black has sente. So Black is doing fine. And then White's sector fighting just kept getting worse and Black was so far ahead the endgame became superfluous.] ; W[lq] WL[1411.97] CR[lq] ; B[mq] BL[388.798] CR[mq] ; W[jr] WL[1406.88] CR[jr] ; B[ir] BL[352.976] CR[ir] ; W[jp] WL[1395.129] CR[jp] ; B[kq] BL[306.239] CR[kq] ; W[kr] WL[1374.304] CR[kr] ; B[iq] BL[283.538] CR[iq] ; W[ip] WL[1366.246] CR[ip] ; B[kp] BL[276.571] CR[kp] ; W[hr] WL[1346.542] CR[hr] ; B[jo] BL[234.479] CR[jo] ; W[fr] WL[1302.575] CR[fr] ; B[eq] BL[194.4] CR[eq] ; W[er] WL[1299.549] CR[er] ; B[gr] BL[190.129] CR[gr] ; W[gs] WL[1290.699] CR[gs] ; B[is] BL[185.414] CR[is] ; W[hs] WL[1287.201] CR[hs] ; B[go] BL[174.604] CR[go] ; W[hn] WL[1284.285] CR[hn] ; B[gn] BL[157.968] CR[gn] ; W[hm] WL[1277.275] CR[hm] ; B[gm] BL[149.114] CR[gm] ; W[dr] WL[1256.519] CR[dr] ; B[br] BL[126.07] CR[br] ; W[hl] WL[1239.794] CR[hl] ; B[fl] BL[103.601] CR[fl] ; W[fk] WL[1226.587] CR[fk] ; B[el] BL[30.637] CR[el] ; W[dk] WL[1222.838] CR[dk] ; B[ck] BL[20.231] CR[ck] ; W[gl] WL[1220.833] CR[gl] ; B[fm] BL[16.187] CR[fm] ; W[ej] WL[1219.274] CR[ej] ; B[ci] BL[12.747] CR[ci] ; W[fq] WL[1216.339] CR[fq] ; B[fp] BL[7.483] CR[fp] ; W[nh] WL[1179.664] CR[nh] ; B[ng] BL[3.189] CR[ng] ; W[mi] WL[1177.628] CR[mi] ; B[li] BL[594.427] OB[24] CR[li] ; W[lh] WL[1174.844] CR[lh] ; B[ki] BL[570.919] OB[23] CR[ki] ; W[mh] WL[1162.381] CR[mh] ; B[ii] BL[545.08] OB[22] CR[ii] ; W[jh] WL[1155.583] CR[jh] ; B[kh] BL[536.48] OB[21] CR[kh] ; W[lg] WL[1148.91] CR[lg] ; B[kf] BL[488.761] OB[20] CR[kf] ; W[lf] WL[1144.521] CR[lf] ; B[le] BL[485.952] OB[19] CR[le] ; W[oa] WL[1137.824] CR[oa] ; B[na] BL[482.87] OB[18] CR[na] ; W[sb] WL[1136.568] CR[sb] ; B[nb] BL[477.63] OB[17] CR[nb] ; W[jj] WL[1131.473] CR[jj] ; B[ji] BL[470.539] OB[16] CR[ji] ; W[lj] WL[1123.825] CR[lj] ; B[ll] BL[445.552] OB[15] CR[ll] ; W[km] WL[1117.205] CR[km] ; B[kl] BL[432.309] OB[14] CR[kl] ; W[ml] WL[1105.437] CR[ml] ; B[cc] BL[414.106] OB[13] CR[cc] ; W[bd] WL[1102.482] CR[bd] ; B[bg] BL[410.542] OB[12] CR[bg] ; W[lm] WL[1096.976] CR[lm] ; B[jl] BL[398.545] OB[11] CR[jl] ; W[jm] WL[1092.975] CR[jm] ; B[il] BL[386.79] OB[10] CR[il] ; W[in] WL[1090.938] CR[in] ; B[kj] BL[378.985] OB[9] CR[kj] ; W[pr] WL[1075.958] CR[pr] ; B[lr] BL[335.199] OB[8] CR[lr] ; W[ms] WL[1072.334] CR[ms] ; B[mr] BL[304.562] OB[7] CR[mr] ; W[ns] WL[1065.047] CR[ns] ; B[ls] BL[302.266] OB[6] CR[ls] ; W[or] WL[1063.9] CR[or] ; B[lk] BL[263.304] OB[5] CR[lk] ; W[mj] WL[1047.431] CR[mj] ; B[bf] BL[258.314] OB[4] CR[bf] ; W[cr] WL[1041.188] CR[cr] ; B[bq] BL[228.391] OB[3] CR[bq] ; W[kg] WL[1025.503] CR[kg] ; B[jg] BL[223.036] OB[2] CR[jg] ; W[hh] WL[1022.51] CR[hh] ; B[ih] BL[219.366] OB[1] CR[ih] ; W[hj] WL[1020.912] CR[hj] ; B[hi] BL[600] OB[25] CR[hi] ; W[hg] WL[1009.804] CR[hg] ; B[gi] BL[590.203] OB[24] CR[gi] ; W[gh] WL[1003.543] CR[gh] ; B[gf] BL[587.539] OB[23] CR[gf] ; W[ik] WL[1001.491] CR[ik] ; B[ij] BL[569.469] OB[22] CR[ij] ; W[jk] WL[998.346] CR[jk] ; B[hk] BL[566.364] OB[21] CR[hk] ; W[gk] WL[995.297] CR[gk] ; B[jn] BL[558.675] OB[20] CR[jn] ; W[ig] WL[991.586] CR[ig] ; B[kk] BL[548.873] OB[19] CR[kk] ; W[hk] WL[975.194] CR[hk] ; B[df] BL[529.434] OB[18] CR[df] ; W[hf] WL[959.208] CR[hf] ; B[je] BL[524.744] OB[17] CR[je] )
